Choi Heejun, Chief Managing Attorney of Dentons Lee, was appointed as a private sector member of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy’s 5th Business Restructuring Planning Committee on November 8, 2024.

The Ministry established the committee with experts from diverse fields—including technology, finance, business management, and law—to respond to the evolving business restructuring environment influenced by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). The committee is tasked with reviewing and approving business restructuring plans, along with handling amendments, cancellations, and extensions of restructuring periods as needed. The selection of members for this 5th committee emphasized experience with AI and the recent amendments to the Corporate Vitality Enhancement Act.

Mr. Choi, a graduate of Seoul National University’s College of Law and a member of the 28th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, brings over 20 years of experience as a judge, having served in various courts, including the Supreme Court, the Seoul High Court, and the Seoul Central District Court, where he handled a wide range of civil, criminal, and public law cases. Following his retirement as a presiding judge from the Seoul Southern District Court in 2022, he served at the law firm Klass Hangerul and in May 2024 took on the role of Chief Managing Attorney at Dentons Lee. Mr. Choi is committed to protecting clients’ rights and interests, drawing on his extensive legal expertise and judicial experience.

As a member of the committee, Mr. Choi aims to provide critical legal insight and counsel to facilitate effective business restructuring in response to today’s rapidly changing industrial landscape.
