Jeong Marn-ki, Advisor at Dentons Lee and Chairman of the Korea Industrial Association Forum (KIAF), jointly hosted the 53rd Industrial Development Forum on June 27th at the Automobile Hall. The event was in collaboration with the Korea Software Technologists Association, the Korea Generative AI Research Institute, and the Global Industry Competitiveness Forum. The theme of the forum was 'Generative AI Strategies for the Industry.'

In his opening remarks, Advisor Jeong stated, "The recent AI revolution is automating even qualitative decision-making in businesses, and any delay in establishing an AI-based economy will weaken competitiveness." Mr. Jeong pointed out that "South Korea's AI technology level is lower than that of major countries, and we are lagging in AI talent and infrastructure." He emphasized the need for a strong national effort to realize AI as a major strength, making AI utilization mandatory in the public sector and enhancing the competitiveness of AI-related industries.

Attorney Kim Dong-hwan remarked, "Patent law defines an invention as 'the creation of technical ideas by a natural person,' and does not recognize the legal capacity of AI to enjoy patent rights, which serves as the basis for refusing to grant patents for AI inventions. This has resulted in a legal void in this field." He further mentioned, "Addressing this issue will be one of the factors that promote the development of AI technology."
